Total Solar Eclipse

Mallorca fell into darkness on Wednesday evening as thousands of people across the island gathered to witness one of the most spectacular astronomical events in a generation.
The Total Solar Eclipse of 12 August 2026 saw the Moon completely cover the Sun across Mallorca, with totality beginning at around 8:31pm and lasting for approximately a minute and a half in Palma.
We began bringing listeners the latest information throughout the day, including updates on traffic, parking restrictions and access to some of Mallorca's most popular viewing locations. With huge numbers of people heading towards the coast, some car parks in the Tramuntana were already reaching capacity well before the eclipse.
As the partial eclipse began at around 7:38pm, the atmosphere across Mallorca began to change. Listeners were encouraged to share their experiences and join us as the island counted down towards totality.
At approximately 8:31pm, the Moon completely covered the Sun.
For a little over a minute, parts of Mallorca experienced the extraordinary sight of the daytime sky falling into darkness before the Sun began to emerge again.
And, naturally, the soundtrack mattered too.
Throughout the three-hour show, we played songs featuring references to the Sun, Moon and eclipse, with listeners getting involved with their own suggestions.
It was a pretty special night for Mallorca — and an equally special night for Heat Mallorca.
